6 women Headblush Glitta couldn’t exist without
Reflecting and showing appreciation and thanks where it’s due is something I believe in a whole bunch. I don’t think it’s ever possible to say thank you too often. As the gorge Karamo from Queer Eye says, repeating something his grandmother often said:
‘Give me my flowers now, not later’
With it being International Women’s Day, I felt it was only necessary to take stock of the immense amount of support I have gotten from so many different women through the years, those who continue to inspire and support me to be the woman and small business owner that I am.
So, my darlings, here are your (virtual) flowers. I hope you all know how important you are and have been to me and my journey.
Erica started it all. She is the number one reason Headblush Glitta exists (besides myself of course).
I met Erica in a Facebook group for entrepreneurs and small business owners in September 2016 as a newly-unemployed mess full of overwhelm and impossible expectations when she offered me a 30 minute coaching call. It. Was. Amazing. And freeing. And she told me it was okay to go and get a part-time job to support myself. I wasn’t a failure for doing that!
Erica eventually gave me a scholarship to take part in her Powerful You coaching course alongside six other amazing women entrepreneurs around the world; a course I credit with setting the foundation for a mindset (mostly) free of comparison, imposter syndrome, knowing my worth and being true to who I am and what I want within my business.
It was Erica, during this course, who suggested the format of a pop up for my makeup-based business, a format that is pretty much the blueprint of Headblush Glitta.
Erica is a coach for creative, passionate, action-oriented people. You can find out more about her and what she does here.
Holly is my fuckin’ ride-or-die bitch. She is my hands-on supporter, emotional rollercoaster co-rider and very much always-needed devil’s advocate. Holly tells me what I need to hear, even when I don’t want to hear it. She makes me face the things I need to and to check in with myself when I’m just not interested. We’ve cried and we’ve moaned and we’ve enjoyed the highs of me being a small business owner together.
Blessed with the gift of the gab like no other, Holly helped me early on at Glitta Bar pop ups to bring the customers in and get them spending. And did they spend! It was an awesome thing to behold. Naturally, I’ve bounced every important decision about Headblush Glitta off of her.
I love her fiercely.
Jazmin is a powerhouse of a woman (even if she doesn’t know it) with quite possibly the most fucking cool business - an unapologetic plus size fashion label - EVER.
We first met thanks to our mutual friend Hermione (another awesome woman with her own business Revival Collective) insisting that we know each other. So after a couple of messages on FB, we met for a date. The rest, about 10 photoshoots later, is history.
Me and Jazmin just totally *get* each other. Our businesses perfectly align and make sense together, and I’m so happy to say that we have grown together. Jazmin has extended her bold, unapologetic platform to me from day one, allowing me to work with some of the most influential plus size models and produce some of the most gorgeous and fulfilling content.
Jazmin runs independent fashion label Plus Equals. You can find more here.
Jess is such a babe. One of the kindest, most thoughtful and helpful people I have had the pleasure of knowing, and eventually hiring to run the social media of Headblush Glitta for a period of time.
She is legit the most productive person I have EVER met. It’s insane what she can fit into a day. She’s just pure skill and talent and perseverance and I respect her so, so much.
Jess has helped me as a friend on numerous occasions with stalls, and she was seriously pivotal when I decided to ramp up and establish Headblush Glitta as a separate entity in 2018, including our eco-friendly switch and new website launch. When I was super nervous holding interviews for my team for the very first time, she was there beside me being a right-hand and helping keep me calm and focused.
I am so thrilled to include Leona on this list. I joined Leona’s small biz community Make It Happen in September 2018 and I can honestly say that the knowledge and piece of mind I have gained from being a part of it is astounding.
I didn’t even realise who she was when I first signed up. Leona used to run jewellery business Lady Luck Rules OK, a super quirky brand that I bought from and looked up to as a teenager. I thought that it and she were so cool! And I still do!
The no-bullshit, honest and heartfelt environment that Leona has cultivated has become so invaluable to me and my business in my seven months of being a member. More so, the resources available via Make It Happen are just insane. There is no stone that goes unturned!
Leona runs the Indie Roller and Make It Happen communities. You can find out more here.
This list would not be one worth posting without appreciating the role my mum has played within my business. Besides the whole birth and rearing thing, she has been a well of encouragement, support and growth from the beginning of my makeup journey (she’s my OG ride-or-die).
She’s THE best listener. Seriously top notch ability to listen, consider and ask the right questions to help you come up with the answers you were looking for (and probably kinda knew but didn’t know-know).
She would happily drive me and my friends to different locations while we played fashion photoshoot in my teenage years, praise me for all of the creative things I tried my hand at, and when I decided to start an Instagram dedicated to makeup, she helped me come up with the name (I was very picky)!
Her support and love knows no bounds, and I am a better woman because of it.
Have you taken the time to realise and appreciate the women that have had a significant impact on your life and/or business? Go on, send ‘em a message and let them know.
